Lagrange Strikes a Deal with Matter Labs to Direct Up to 75% of Outsourced Proofs

Lagrange, a decentralized zK Prover network, has entered into a strategic partnership with Matter Labs, the developer of zkSync, aiming to outsource up to 75% of Matter Labs’ proofing needs to the Lagrange Prover Network (LPN) over the next two years. The move marks a significant step forward in accelerating zkSync’s transition to decentralized proof generation, contributing to the scalability and security of the Ethereum ecosystem.

Successful Integration and New Progress

In January 2025, Lagrange successfully integrated the decentralized version of zkSync’s ZK Stack developer, demonstrating that proof generation no longer needs to rely on centralized solutions. This new partnership reinforces that progress, allowing zkSync to handle more of its proofing needs on a decentralized network, something that has never been achieved before at this scale.

Ismael Hishon-Rezaizadeh, Co-Founder and CEO of Lagrange, commented:

Every rollup will be a ZK rollup, and that is the future of Layer 2 scaling. ZK rollups provide unprecedented scalability, security, and cost efficiency, making them the obvious choice for next-generation decentralized applications. With this partnership, zkSync can take the lead and the Elastic Network will operate at unprecedented scale without compromising decentralization.

Benefits for users and businesses
This partnership brings many benefits to both users and businesses:

-zkSync users: Lower gas fees and faster transactions.

-Businesses: Increased confidence in the performance and liveness of Layer 2 on the Elastic Network.

Anthony Rose, CTO of Matter Labs, shared:

Decentralized proofing increases the resilience of the network, compared to a centralized model, and expands the total hardware available that can be used to generate proofs - which is important as network activity increases. By integrating with Lagrange's infrastructure, we are also expanding the flexibility and control available to builders, cementing ZK Chains as the most robust and adaptable scaling solution for the future of web3.

The growth of the zkSync ecosystem

The zkSync ecosystem now has nearly 25 ZK stack chains, 300 applications, and 1.3 million on-chain transactions in the last month alone. Lagrange has demonstrated its ability to operate at scale, ushering in the next phase of ZK rollup development.

Key Takeaways from the Collaboration

Decentralized: The majority of proof generation for a large rollup will occur entirely through a decentralized network.

- Lower Costs: Decentralized proofing significantly reduces operational costs, reducing user gas fees.

- Liveness & Security: LPN’s network of independent validators ensures continuous uptime, resilience, and greater security than centralized alternatives.

- Revenue & Growth: By capturing more of the proofing needs of zkSync, Lagrange opens up new revenue generation and network expansion opportunities.
